US Disc Golf Championship: Built Upon a Roc

The rise of the United States Disc Golf Championship, to one of the most important disc golf events in history, would not have been possible without the support of Innova Champion. Without Innova’s Championship Rocs and the loyal supporters who purchase them, the show simply would not go on.

Each year Innova donates a special run of its legendary “Roc” golf disc to the Championship in premium plastics not available in stores. They debut at the Championship in a special Spectator Release, then the remainder are made available here, in the ZoneDriven Pro Shop. We are honored to have such an opportunity.

USDGC Rocs have become highly sought after by throwers and collectors around the world. They have been re-sold over the years for hundreds of dollars. Several have even gone for over $1000 each, an amount unprecedented for collectible flying discs.

In order to preserve the value of these discs a Collector Guide is generated with each release. Guides were not prepared in the early years as we did not envision the collector market evolving as it has. (Thank you eBay.) Over time though we learned, from countless conversations with supporters, that documenting the entire run in detail would be helpful, if not essential in protecting the “magic” of the USDGC Roc. All of the data currently available is presented here.

In 2007 we plan to break new ground with this fund raising campaign. The overall number of discs released (approx. 4000) is lower than it’s been since at least 2004. We also plan to identify each and every disc in the most detailed Collector Guide ever done.

It is our sincere hope that these efforts will make collecting Championship Rocs more like collecting fine art, and less like collecting golf discs. For years to come people will be able to confirm exactly the disc before them. We believe the Roc deserves this, the US Championship deserves this, as do those who have supported us so graciously over the years.

If you’ve never attended the US Championship at Winthrop, you most definitely should. It is unlike any disc golf event you have ever seen and an experience you will not forget.

See you in October…
