5.3.07 - Interview with huk lab’s Jay Harbour

I was born in Waco, TX and raised predominantly in Pensacola, FL.
I do play quite frequently logging about 150 days on a course in a given year. Over the past four years I’ve competed in 60 PDGA events and about 25 non-sanctioned tournaments.
Everything that I love to do outdoors has a common thread woven through it which is the slang verb ‘huck’. Kayakers huck waterfalls, snowboarders huck cliffs and disc golfers and ultimate players alike huck discs. I regard the Great Pacific Northwest as an amazing laboratory to build skill in any huck sport as you could easily hit the slopes, flow down a river and play a round of disc golf all in the same day. In the fall of 2002, the vision for huk lab took flight.
In the next decade, disc golf will experience unprecedented growth as more and more people from all walks of life and athletic ability catch the fever. This will not only give rise to more public courses but also necessitate a need for private courses that offer players world class courses and amenities. I would forecast that televised events are in the near future and believe the visual and aural qualities of the sport would translate well to the viewership.
After last weeks league night at Pier Park, I caught the Appleseed Cast play at Holocene here in Portland.
I enjoy the diversity of people involved in the game and passionate pursuit of perfect flight.
Wow… that’s tough. In reality I would love to play the fabled Winthrop Gold course in Rock Hill, SC. In fantasy I can picture a temporary course winding through Yosimite with an infinite number of holes so that my last round would never end.

I’m adamantly against laying up! Run it and live!
