5.11.07 - “In the Bag” with Innova Staff (Southard)

Here is the first installment of an “In the Bag” series with employees of Innova Disc Golf (Carolina). We thought it would be interesting to see what people threw, who had access to basically everything.

Mark Southard, Marketing Manager

Bag:

Revolution. I have been using the same grey Revolution bag for a long time now. I got this bag when the only bag choices at Revolution were color. It has held up great over the years and has many many rounds logged on it.

Strap. Everyone these days have backpack style straps. Not me. I hated backpacks when I was in high school and college, so why would I start wearing them now. I use a single strap that has survived multiple bags; I think it is a strap I got off of a Gateway bag. If I have a long walk, I simply sling it across my chest like a messenger bag.

Drivers:

1 - Overstable Disc, Usually a Starfire or Firebird. It doesn’t really matter because I don’t have the arm speed for these discs anymore. I use my Starfire/Firebird/TeeRex exclusively for sidearms, flex shots, and monster winds.

1 - Star Leopard, Truly a great disc that hardly anyone throws. This has become a go to disc for me because it flies just like a Roc, but longer. I love it.

1 - Star Wraith, Anyone can throw a Wraith far. Well maybe not me, but I still try. If I am feeling saucy, I’ll sub an Orc.

2 - Star Sidewinders, These are perfect for flip up hyzers, straight shots, long turnovers, and weenie arms like myself. They also roll forever. One is brand new, the other slightly beat.

Mid Range:

1 – 11-time KC Pro Roc, fairly new for hyzers

1 – 10-time KC Pro Roc, flies straight on any hole, and I can force it over for longer turnovers

1 – DX San Marino Roc, a “Greatest Holes” series stamp that has been in my bag for years–I bought it, gave it to a friend, got it back, and it has been in the bag ever since (thanks Russell).

1 – DX Ontario Roc, I just added this 3 ring Ontario thanks to Poole. He couldn’t make it across the lake with any of his drivers, so he tried with mine. His failure ended up being a great success for me, and now I have this sweet new old Roc.

Putters:

1 – KC Aviar, Perfect for short Range drives.

1 – Aviar Putt & Approach, I grabbed this for a one disc round at Fewell Park in Rock Hill. I had forgotten how sweet the P&A model flies. It was instantly placed back in the bag.

1 – DX Big Bead Aviar, I am really excited to see these back in production. I have a decent stash, but there is no better disc for putting out there. If I am on, it doesn’t matter where I am, my trusty Big Bead is going in (and the guys in the shop will attest to that). I just have to make sure that I throw bad enough from the tee to leave myself a decent jump putt. And that usually isn’t a problem.
