9.10.07 - Derek Robins Jr., USDGC Competitor

I was at the first USDGC and had a great first round, shooting the same as Barry Schultz, Scott Stokely and Ron Russel. Unfortunately a poor last round dropped me out of the money, and I had to settle for being a spectator at the awards… or so I thought, until a special award was announced for the only overseas player, I was called down to receive a solid metal commemorative disc. That’s a pretty special memento!!
I love the challenge of the course, and the single round/day format means that you savour the experience even more. I love the fact that you get more time to hang out with the other players and spectate a little too. Most of all, the tournament is just so special because everyone feels it is special. It started with Jonathan Poole’s vision, and has just snowballed as everyone wanted to be part of it. There’s a feeling that you are part of history in the making.
