9.15.07 - Norman Fitzgerald, USDGC Competitor

What is your favorite memory from past US Championships, as a spectator or competitor?

This tournament is exactly the future of our sport that many of us would(golfers)like to see every weekend, every aspect is thought out and taylor made for pure player enjoyment,we are very lucky to have such devoted tounament directors, staff and volunteers that make this event possible.

Do you have a special story on how you qualified?

Three years ago I realized that the state coordinator position for R.I. was vacant and that our state rep. spot was also not being filled, so I stepped and sent myself, the next year I asked around to the few golfers that we have here in R.I and found someone to go, at that time I said “I don’t want to go back until I actually qualify” and where did find myself but at Winthrop on Monday trying qualify-missed it by a handful of strokes, this year I really wanted to make it to my first worlds but I could not therefore I decided to take another shot at Winthrop Gold !!

What do you most look forward to when playing in this tournament?

This tournament/course is/can be a very frustrating time and one of my biggest downfalls is to beat myself with a bad attitude, it has been one of main focal points lately so I am hoping coming into this tourney that I can have some fun and play smart(within my limits!!!) although I recall myself last year saying “this course is not meant to be fun, this course is a test”. Hopefully I’ve done my homework!! See you in October!! NORM!!
