What I’ve been doing all winter
After Florida, I finally made my move out to California for the winter! I have been living in Santa Cruz with Kristy King, another up and coming Pro woman. After all my talk about the horrible winters in Ohio, I finally made the trek, backed my bags and set forth towards the west! And, indeed the west is best!
I had been searching far and wide to find a place to live out in san Francisco, but nothing seemed to work out. I was planning on moving with friends, but I told myself even if they bailed I still had to get out. Nothing could hold me back this time! I couldn’t see myself living through another winter in Ohio. So I searched and searched and nothing fit my needs. As a last resort I called my friend Chasidee and threw it out there for her to look in the Santa Cruz classifieds for anything. Her next response is “Move in with us!” Her and Kristy were looking for a new roommate anyways and after we talked it out and it worked perfectly for all of us!
With my travels to and from Santa Cruz, now I can’t see myself living in the city. I think Avery and I came to Santa Cruz around 8 times last year and everytime was a blast. Even when I didn’t live here this seemed like home away from home..
I don’t have a car out here but it really isn’t necessary. Our house sat 4 blocks from downtown, about 10 blocks from the beach and less than a mile from the world acclaimed De LaVeaga Disc Golf Course. (We actually just moved from that house tho, into KK’s dad’s house just down the road. Much bigger and comes with a hot tub!) I have been walking everywhere, checking out the scenes, and golfing like a maniac. The main reason I never practiced much during the winters is Ohio is obvious, its WAY TOO cold for me! There are those hardcore golfers out there, practicing in the snow til they can’t feel any part of their body, but needless to say– Thats not me.
I’d rather be hanging out with these guys down on the wharf..
Usually after the last tounrnament of the season, I put away my bag and rest up for the next season thaws out. This year was not the case, I’ve been playing as many rounds as possible and have been trying to check out the many courses California has to offer. I’m actually pretty far behind on that, I really need to catch up! I felt very prepared going into this 2009 year as I have been playing little monthly and local doubles. I was actually doing fairly well and ended up placing and winning in unsanctioned Open events.
Like last year, I have also been working on my sidearm. It’s still pretty horrible, but I’ve been trying to work it into my game as much as possible. It seems so effortless in practice, but when I put pressue on myself to throw a good one I screw it all up. It’s just another step I need to work on to improve my game, so I gotta keep up with it!
My first event of the year is the La Vie en Rose, in which Juliana Korver is helping run…
Read on to my next blog to see how that all went down..
